Short Term Rentals Update

A short term (vacation) rental can most simply be defined as a rental for less than 30 days. Rentals of 30+ days are considered long-term residential rentals are not subject to land use permitting requirements.  Vacation rentals, however, require three approvals:

  1. Transient Occupancy Tax (TOT) certificate from the County Tax Collector,
  2. Land Use Permit from the Monterey County Planning Department, and
  3. Written consent from Pebble Beach Company to comply with the property’s CC&Rs.

Currently, the County of Monterey is in the process of developing new rules and regulations for vacation rentals.   Consequently, PBC is not issuing consent for vacation rentals until the County has completed its rule-making process.

Del Monte Forest property owners can file an anonymous complaint about a vacation rental online with the County (https://secure.hostcompliance.com/complaints/type),
